There's something about this place that invites you to slow down, not just your pace, but your breathing. Your thoughts. Even your love.
I've watched couples arrive frazzled from work, traffic, and the noise of everyday life, and by morning, they're holding hands over coffee and lingering a little longer in the garden. That's the kind of magic The Riverside Inn makes space for.
We've had proposals, anniversaries, second honeymoons, and quiet weekends where people simply come to be still together. And I've come to believe: romance doesn't always need fireworks. Sometimes it just needs peace.
Love in Every Season
Spring brings the scent of blooming roses and early morning walks along the river trail, birdsong in the background, and maybe a surprise wildflower bouquet waiting on the breakfast tray.
Summer is for sun-drenched picnics under the willow trees, lemonade and laughter, and long evenings watching fireflies flicker from the porch swing.
Fall means bourbon flights by candlelight, crisp porch conversations, and the crunch of leaves underfoot as you explore Lovers' Lane.
And Winter? It's slow dancing in the carriage house after a private dinner, lingering over a quiet evening in your suite, or watching snowfall from the warmth of the inn with nothing on the agenda but each other.

Real Love Stories From The Riverside Inn
A golden-hour proposal in the gazebo
Last October, a guest named Daniel called us a week before his stay. He had a ring, a speech he'd been rewriting for a month, and one question: could we help him propose to Hannah in the gazebo at sunset without giving it away? We tucked a small bouquet behind the porch column, set out two glasses of Kentucky sparkling wine on the gazebo bench, and timed the walk so the light coming off the Ohio River would hit the white railings just right. Hannah thought they were heading down for a quick photo before dinner. By the time she turned around, Daniel was already on one knee. They got engaged at 6:42 pm, drank the sparkling wine on the porch, and ate Rachel's roasted chicken at a candlelit table for two in the dining room. They are coming back for their first anniversary this fall.
Twenty-five years later, the same suite
Mark and Lisa honeymooned at The Riverside Inn long before we owned it. When they booked their 25th anniversary weekend, Lisa wrote one line in the notes field: "Whichever room has the four-poster bed and the river view, please." We put them in The Magnolia Suite. They brought their original wedding photo and propped it on the mantel. Saturday morning they took coffee on the porch in the same two rocking chairs they had used as newlyweds. Lisa told Rachel at breakfast that the inn felt smaller than they remembered, in the best way, like the world had grown loud and this one place had stayed exactly the right size.
How To Plan Your Romantic Weekend
A few practical notes from the front porch:
- Spring and fall are the most-requested seasons. Rooms book out 3 to 4 months ahead for May, June, September, and October. Winter and late summer have more openings and the same quiet.
- Pick your setting first, then the add-on. A ceremony or proposal in the Gazebo & Gardens works best at golden hour. An evening indoors leans toward the Carriage House or a private candlelit table in the dining room.
- Book add-ons when you book the room. The private dinner, custom charcuterie board, and in-room picnic are all on the add-ons page. They need 72 hours of notice so the kitchen can source and plate properly.
- Pack soft layers. Evenings on the porch run cool even in July. A book, a small Bluetooth speaker, and one nice outfit for dinner are usually all you need.
- Tell us what you are celebrating. Anniversary, proposal, reconciliation, babymoon: a one-line note in the booking lets us set the room with a small touch (a card, a single rose, a chilled bottle) without making it feel staged.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can we propose at The Riverside Inn?
Yes, often. The gazebo at sunset is the most common spot, the porch swing is a quieter second, and the riverfront overlook works for couples who want privacy. Tell us when you book and we will coordinate timing, a small floral touch, and a photo handoff with no other guests in frame.
What is included in a romantic getaway weekend?
Every overnight stay includes the suite, a sit-down gourmet breakfast made from scratch each morning, full access to the gardens and porch, and the quiet of an adults-only inn. Add-ons (private dinners, charcuterie, in-room picnics, couples massage) are booked separately on the add-ons page.
Do you host anniversary celebrations?
Yes. We host first anniversaries through 50th. The most common requests are a candlelit private dinner for two, a return to the suite a couple originally honeymooned in, and a small in-room setup (flowers, a card, a chilled bottle) on arrival. Mention the milestone when you book.
Is The Riverside Inn a good fit for a babymoon or quiet retreat?
It is one of the most common reasons couples book midweek. Five suites total, no pool, no bar scene, and no through-traffic. Bring a book and a robe and let the river do the rest.
How far in advance should we book?
Peak weekends (May, June, September, October, plus Valentine's and the week between Christmas and New Year) book 3 to 4 months ahead. Off-peak weekdays often have openings 2 to 3 weeks out. If your dates are flexible, a Sunday-through-Tuesday stay is the easiest to land and the quietest on the property.
