A Historic Bed & Breakfast in Kentucky, Restored Without Losing Itself

An 1869 riverfront estate where the brickwork is original, the floors are heart pine, and the Wi-Fi is fast anyway.

Dates fill quickly for peak weekends. Check live availability or speak with our innkeeper.

Why Riverside Inn

There are old inns in Kentucky, and there are historic ones. The difference is in the care: original detail kept where it should be, modern comfort hidden where it has to be, and a property that feels lived in rather than staged.

The home dates to 1869 and has welcomed guests as a bed and breakfast since 2011. We've kept the bones and updated everything else.

A property with a long story

The estate was built as a private home for a riverboat captain and has had a handful of stewards since. Restoration began in the 2000s and the property opened as a bed and breakfast in 2011, with care continuing season by season. Our innkeeper journals capture much of it.

Architecture worth slowing down for
02

Architecture worth slowing down for

  • Original 19th-century brickwork and limestone foundation
  • Heart-pine floors and plaster ceiling moldings
  • Period-appropriate millwork and hardware
  • A garden gazebo overlooking the river
  • Carriage House outbuilding

The guest experience

You'll be one of ten guests on the property, not one of two hundred. Breakfast is served at private tables. Coffee is fresh whenever you walk into the kitchen. The innkeepers know your name by the second morning.

Why it matters to travelers

Chain hotels look identical from Lexington to Louisville. A real historic inn is a one-of-one. You won't find this room in another building anywhere, and that is, for the right traveler, the entire point.

Frequently Asked

Questions guests ask

When was the inn built?

The main house dates to 1869 and was built as a private riverfront estate. It opened as a bed and breakfast in 2011.

Is it actually historic, or just old?

Both. The structure retains original brickwork, heart-pine floors, and plaster moldings. Restoration has been period-respectful, with modern systems hidden behind original detail.

What's a typical guest experience?

Check-in at 4pm, a tour of the public rooms and gardens, settling into your suite, dinner in nearby Carrollton, a quiet evening on the porch, and breakfast at 9:00 AM the next morning (early continental breakfast available by request).

Do the suites have modern amenities?

Yes. King beds, en-suite baths, climate control, fast Wi-Fi, and quiet HVAC. The historic feel is in the architecture, not in the plumbing.

Can we tour the property without staying?

Public tours are limited but available by appointment for couples planning a wedding or considering a future stay. Contact the innkeeper to arrange one.
