Somewhere in almost every wedding planning journey, there is a night like this one: a bride on her living room floor with a hot glue gun, 84 mason jars in stacks around her, a spreadsheet open on her phone, and a quiet thought she does not say out loud: how much is this actually saving me?
We see the aftermath of that night all the time, because we are an innkeeper and a wedding venue on the Ohio River. Couples arrive with bins. Parents arrive with bins. Somebody's truck arrives with a rented arch, two IKEA lanterns, and a very specific fear that the aisle will look wrong in photos.
So let us be honest about the math, because the truth is simple: DIY decor almost never costs less. It just costs differently, in money that is harder to see and time that is very easy to underestimate.
The hidden invoice of DIY decor
When couples add up DIY, they usually count the craft supplies. That is the smallest line on the invoice.
The real costs look like this:
- Rentals you still have to buy. Linens, highboys, charger plates, arches, and vases do not come from a craft store for pennies. You are renting them anyway, just piecemeal, from five different vendors instead of one.
- Buying what you cannot rent. Candles, bud vases, floral foam, ribbon, signage. Bulk florals are never as cheap as they look online, and a standard florist minimum can run higher than an entire package tier.
- The Marketplace trap. Almost every DIY couple ends up buying decor twice: once to build it, and once more when they list it all on Marketplace the week after the wedding and take whatever they can get.
- Your time, and your family's. Assembling centerpieces the week of, loading the bins, hauling them in, setting everything up the morning of, then packing, hauling out, unpacking at home, and reselling what is left. Someone you love is doing every one of those steps, usually in the hours when they should be getting ready with you.
- The risk you cannot price. If a centerpiece falls short in person, there is no team to fix it at 3 PM on your wedding day.
None of that shows up on the Pinterest budget. All of it shows up in real life.
What a decor package actually is
A package is not "florals." It is the whole system that makes a room feel designed: the arch or garden installation, the aisle, the welcome sign, the cocktail hour linens and candlelight, the bar styling, the reception centerpieces, the table numbers, the sweetheart table. One team, one design language, one price.
And the two words that matter most in our packages are these: setup and breakdown included.
Our styling team installs every element before your ceremony and takes it all down after the last dance. Nobody in your family touches a bin. Nobody is crawling under tables with trash bags while your guests are dancing. You show up to a finished room, and you leave a married person.
Why it is not actually cheaper
Here is the honest version of the math we watch play out.
A couple DIYs a Signature-level look for 100 guests. They spend on supplies, rentals pieced together from multiple vendors, and bulk florals that arrive half the size of the photos. They buy what they could not rent. Then they spend the equivalent of two full working days of their own and their families' labor, plus a week of Marketplace listings after the wedding recovering maybe half the spend.
Set that beside a Signature decor package that includes the fully styled arch, aisle, cocktail hour, reception tables, sweetheart table, and full setup and breakdown. The gap closes fast. Sometimes the package wins outright. It almost always wins once you price a single Saturday of your mother's time, which, at this point in your life, is beyond value.
It is also about how the day feels
This is the part the spreadsheet never captures.
A boutique wedding at Riverside Inn should feel unhurried. When decor is handled, your morning is for coffee on the porch, your photographer is for the golden hour on the river lawn, and your people are for celebrating with you instead of working for you.
That is a real wedding gift you can give your family: the gift of not being crew.
What our packages look like
We built six tiers, scaled to the size of your day, all with setup and breakdown included:
- Boutique packages for elopements, micro weddings, and intimate celebrations up to 50 guests, from $695 to $2,495. See our boutique decor packages.
- Full wedding packages for the complete celebration, from $1,850 (Classic) to $3,850 (Signature, our most popular) to $6,500 (Luxe Garden). See our full wedding decor packages.
Every tier covers ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, and every one starts with a design conversation about your colors, flowers, and style. You are not picking from a catalog. You are picking the scale.
The grounds do half the work, too
One more reason our packages shine here: the property is already beautiful. A riverfront gazebo, six and a half acres of gardens, a historic 1869 house, and grand tents mean your decor is layering on a setting that photographs well on its own. You do not need decor to build atmosphere from a blank ballroom. You need it to dress a place that is already dressed.
Come see it styled
The best way to feel the difference is to walk the grounds and see the rooms set. Request a wedding tour and tell us your date and guest count. We will walk you through what fits and draft a styling proposal around your vision. If you are still weighing the overall budget, our wedding pricing page lays everything out plainly, because we believe you should see the full picture before you fall in love with a place.
