History

The original house was built in 1869 by Local Businessman and Militia Captain, Senator James H. McDanell, Sr. He lived with his wife, Irene, and their two sons and daughter. His farm was one of the finest in the state. He was a careful, diligent, and conservative man, three features that assisted materially in making his fortune. He soon built up a good trade that grew year after year until his establishment, J.A. McDanell and Sons Mercantile, became the most important business in the town of Warsaw.

Captain McDannell's home partially burnt in 1889, but he had it rebuilt, and it became known as Lynwood Hall. Originally were two identical entrances – one facing the Ohio River (which remains the same today, and the other facing US Highway 42). Lynwood Hall remained in the McDanell family for over three generations.

Our Journey So Far

In 1950, William H. Hill, a nurseryman, bought the property and ran a large tree nursery; the beauty of some of his trees still grace the property, such as the 5 types of Magnolia trees, Bradford pears, multi-colored Dogwoods, and stunning American Holly trees. You will find large Oak trees, American Lindens, Tulip trees, and Weeping Cherry trees, to name a few.

Mr. Hill changed the front facade of the house by adding the brick columns that are still standing today. Mr. Hill's daughter, Marie Hill Roberts, and her husband Harry, along with their son and three daughters, inherited the house where Marie lived until 2005. In 2010, the current owners, Dennis Griffin, a Businessman, and his wife, Joyce, purchased the property, then known as Heritage Hall, from Marie's daughter Elizabeth Roberts Jackson.

The Griffin's lovingly took ownership, and after a year of extensive restoration and renovation ~ where the beauty of the old was merged with the convenience of the new ~ the house proudly opened in May 2011 as the magnificent Riverside Inn Bed and Breakfast; one of Kentucky's most romantic inns.

In October of 2020 the Griffin's sold the property to the new and current owners Ray and Mandy Branscum
